1 Week Post Partum Update
I’m finally checking in with our 1 week post partum update – it’s 1 week and a day on from the birth of my beautiful baby boy, Mini M!
We’re back at home after having a few days at my mum’s house which was lovely. It was so great to be there, especially for Miss M so she had some consistency and didn’t feel left out at all. A BIG thank you to my lovely parents for putting us up :)
So now I’m 1 week post partum and I thought I would update you on how we all are.
Mini M is doing brilliantly – I will do a full birth story post as soon as I have more time. We were not at home when I went into active labour and made the decision because of that, coupled with being overdue, that instead of a home birth we would head to the midwife led unit at our hospital. I did get my wish of labouring in the water this time around which was wonderful!
I gave birth just after 7am and we came home later that day which was great.
Mini M has had high bilirubin levels unfortunately so until yesterday we had to make daily trips back to the hospital for him to be checked and thankfully they decreased yesterday so no more trips. Miss M was jaundiced too but we were lucky in Sydney that they actually brought the bilirubin lamp to our house and we got to keep it until she was better again! Mini M hasn’t needed the lamp so we haven’t had to stay in the hospital.
He is breastfeeding like a little trouper – in fact today he has fed almost ALL day. I think they call it cluster feeding although it’s more non-stop than clusters! All good though, he’s feeding up nicely and will help get rid of the jaundice. I did have supply issues with Miss M and I’m feeling really positive that it won’t be an issue this time around.
He was weighed at his Day 3 check up and had only lost 6% of his body weight which is brilliant and indicates that he’s feeding really well – hurray!
Sleep-wise – well he’s a newborn so sleep isn’t consistent as yet! He’s been waking anywhere between 2-5 times per night in his first week which is completely normal so I’m grabbing sleep when I can.
I’m feeling pretty good actually – mainly because I got about 8 hours sleep altogether last night. Of course that will jinx things now!
I’m physically recovering well – I’ve been up and about a lot every day and every day I feel more ‘normal’ :)
So far I haven’t noticed any stretchmarks!
I had forgotten a bit how much newborns breastfeed though! Every day he’s feeding more and more and sleeping less and less in the day so it means getting anything done at home is a challenge but really, the laundry etc is so unimportant and can wait.
Mini M is my last baby and I’m treasuring each and every second with him and love spending hours just staring at his adorable little face.
I’ve been really making the most of any chance I get with Miss M as I’m so aware that I do not want her to feel left out if I can help it. She is being so adorably cute with her new little brother! She has a pink teddy bear and she bought him a little blue matching one. When we came home from the hospital she shouted ‘I’ve got a babby bubba!’ and it made us melt!
I can see already how challenging having two so young is going to be so I know we’re in for some hard work ahead but also some adorably wonderful times too.
I feel so blessed to have such an amazing family to share my life with! :)
