5 Month Post Partum Update
Hello there and welcome to our 5 Month post partum update!
It’s been ‘all systems go’ in our house with the imminent emigration to Australia but this week we are celebrating Mini M’s 5 month birthday :) Wow-wee, 5 months old, what a big, big boy.
It’s hard to believe that in just another month, we’ll be starting him on solid food. We’re planning on doing baby led weaning with him having had such a positive experience of it with Miss M. I hope he ends up loving his food just as much as she does!
Mini is doing splendidly. He’s such a happy baby, he’s lovely and cuddly and we’re having no problems with breastfeeding which is such a relief having struggling with my supply while I breastfed Miss M.
I’m going back to work in November when he is 6 month’s old so I’ve been thinking about whether to wean him on to formula then or try and express milk when I’m at work. I did express when I returned to work last time but as I had such a low supply, I couldn’t ever express much and my supply disappeared altogether after a few weeks. I wasn’t too upset though as I’d thoroughly enjoyed breastfeeding her for 7 months :)
If you have any tips on expressing milk and building a freezer stash, I’d love you to let me know in the Comments below.
Mini’s pincer grip is coming along so well and he particularly loves to grab my hair – ouch! He isn’t sitting up yet but he seems to be getting there with a very strong back and beck muscles now. He’s as nosy as his big sister and is constantly looking around him at everything going on.
After a thorough inspection earlier in the week, we can’t see any teeth yet – I’m happy about that as I’m still breastfeeding! Miss M didn’t get her teeth until quite late so he might be the same.
He’s just such a lovely, placid baby. He very rarely cries these days and he’s so content sitting on me or anywhere really as long as he can see one of us nearby. He only cries when he really needs something – food or nappy change or a little sleep. Miss M would never just sit on anyone, I had to pace the room with her constantly!
On the subject of sleep, I think we’re in the middle of the ‘4 month sleep regression’ as he’s gone back to waking up twice a night, sometimes 3 times. He goes to bed at 6.30pm then wakes up at 1am and/or 3am and then again at around 5.30am. Then he’ll sleep until about 7am. I think after we’ve moved house and got over the jet lag, we’ll try putting him to bed closer to 7pm when his sister goes and that might cut out that 5.30am wake up. 6.30pm is perhaps a little bit early but I’m not bothering to change that until we’re settled.
I won’t complain though as even though he wakes, it only takes a quick feed for him to get back to sleep. I sleep so so lightly these days that even if he slept through, I wouldn’t – argh!
I’m doing well – I’d say I’m 100% back to normal now woo hoo! I’ve lost 12lbs since giving birth to Mini but my Weight Loss Wednesday posts are now on hold until we’re settled in Australia. I do intend not to put any weight on of course and I’ve been running around like a crazy person packing everything so I hope I’m doing ok with it.
I’m hoping to find a zumba class near to our new home as I’m now confident that I won’t bounce my uterus out :) I’d also love to start swimming and the complex where we’re renting an apartment has a pool yay.
Well as you know, we’re moving to Australia in just a few days and I’m looking forward to getting settled in our new city there, in my new job and carving out a little life for ourselves!
