5 Month Post Partum Update

Hello there and welcome to our 5 Month post partum update!

It’s been ‘all systems go’ in our house with the imminent emigration to Australia but this week we are celebrating Mini M’s 5 month birthday :)  Wow-wee, 5 months old, what a big, big boy.

Mini M

It’s hard to believe that in just another month, we’ll be starting him on solid food.  We’re planning on doing baby led weaning with him having had such a positive experience of it with Miss M.  I hope he ends up loving his food just as much as she does!

Mini is doing splendidly.  He’s such a happy baby, he’s lovely and cuddly and we’re having no problems with breastfeeding which is such a relief having struggling with my supply while I breastfed Miss M.

I’m going back to work in November when he is 6 month’s old so I’ve been thinking about whether to wean him on to formula then or try and express milk when I’m at work.  I did express when I returned to work last time but as I had such a low supply, I couldn’t ever express much and my supply disappeared altogether after a few weeks.  I wasn’t too upset though as I’d thoroughly enjoyed breastfeeding her for 7 months :)

If you have any tips on expressing milk and building a freezer stash, I’d love you to let me know in the Comments below.

Mini’s pincer grip is coming along so well and he particularly loves to grab my hair – ouch!  He isn’t sitting up yet but he seems to be getting there with a very strong back and beck muscles now.  He’s as nosy as his big sister and is constantly looking around him at everything going on.

After a thorough inspection earlier in the week, we can’t see any teeth yet – I’m happy about that as I’m still breastfeeding!  Miss M didn’t get her teeth until quite late so he might be the same.

He’s just such a lovely, placid baby.  He very rarely cries these days and he’s so content sitting on me or anywhere really as long as he can see one of us nearby.  He only cries when he really needs something – food or nappy change or a little sleep.  Miss M would never just sit on anyone, I had to pace the room with her constantly!

On the subject of sleep, I think we’re in the middle of the ‘4 month sleep regression’ as he’s gone back to waking up twice a night, sometimes 3 times.  He goes to bed at 6.30pm then wakes up at 1am and/or 3am and then again at around 5.30am.  Then he’ll sleep until about 7am.  I think after we’ve moved house and got over the jet lag, we’ll try putting him to bed closer to 7pm when his sister goes and that might cut out that 5.30am wake up.  6.30pm is perhaps a little bit early but I’m not bothering to change that until we’re settled.

I won’t complain though as even though he wakes, it only takes a quick feed for him to get back to sleep.  I sleep so so lightly these days that even if he slept through, I wouldn’t – argh!

I’m doing well – I’d say I’m 100% back to normal now woo hoo!  I’ve lost 12lbs since giving birth to Mini but my Weight Loss Wednesday posts are now on hold until we’re settled in Australia.  I do intend not to put any weight on of course and I’ve been running around like a crazy person packing everything so I hope I’m doing ok with it.

I’m hoping to find a zumba class near to our new home as I’m now confident that I won’t bounce my uterus out :)  I’d also love to start swimming and the complex where we’re renting an apartment has a pool yay.

Our Family

Well as you know, we’re moving to Australia in just a few days and I’m looking forward to getting settled in our new city there, in my new job and carving out a little life for ourselves!

Aww he sounds like such a lovely baby! Even with sleep regression, he’s sleeping better than my 14 month old! Hope the move all goes smoothly. #brilliantblogposts

Lovely Mim, are you in Oz now? I’m a bit behind with things as running around with Lottie. If so I hope it’s all gone well and you’re settling in well. I can’t believe Mini is five months already! It sounds like he is doing amazingly with his sleep and well done again with your weight loss! Xx

Wow! Moving with a baby and toddler, that’s impressive!
I do not envy you and the flight to Australia though.
Hope the jet lag passes for everyone soon. At least you must be enjoying nicer weather than we are! :)

Your 4 months sleep regression sounds very similar to ours – my boys are waking at similar times to your little one. It seemed to come round just when we were getting quite good blocks of sleep, too! Good luck with the weaning, I’ll be following your progress as we’ll probably be looking to start in 6 weeks or so. I’m keen to try baby led too as I’ve heard such good things about it! Best of luck with your big move x

Ah they’re so unpredictable aren’t they! Thank you so much! x

He sounds like such an easy going little guy! That must make the move a little easier. And that’s wonderful that you’re able to breastfeed for as long as you are. My little boy started teething at four months and wouldn’t stop biting so I made him switch to the bottle. Hope your move goes well! :) #parentingpicks

He really is – very different to my first! Aww we’re yet to have teeth – I’m scared! x

Aah, this is lovely Mim. I’m glad breastfeeding is going well this time, and he sounds like a lovely content baby – which is what you want when you already have one, isn’t it? That photo of you two looks lovely :) xx

You made me laugh ‘feeling confident enough not to bounce your uterus out’ lol! I am hoping to join a Zumba class too – they are so much fun! I hope all is going well in Oz and good luck with the baby led weaning, i remember that well xx #ParentingPicks

Ha ha! Zumba is SO much fun – it’s literally the only exercise I’ve ever done that I liked! Need to find a new class x

So many changes happening, how exciting! I’m so jealous about your doing the baby led weaning, when my son was little I’d never heard of that and now he is the pickiest eater ever :( if I ever decide to have another child I’ll definitely be trying that. Rock on, momma, with the weight loss! Good for you, that is not easy. I had the same experience with my milk supply dwindling until I dried up after returning to work. They really should make pumping easier to do at work. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this post!

Thank you so much! I need to get going with my weight loss again now though – I’ve hit a hurdle :) x

Ah glad to see you both doing so well :) Both our babies are at such a smilar stage – L was born on May 12th. I’m planning on babyled weaning too so will have a nose about your blog to see if you’ve any posts from the first time round. #parentingpicks
