5 Week Post Partum Update

5 Week Post Partum Update

Mini M is another week older!  Here’s my 5 week post partum update:

Mini M

Mini is as cute as ever and growing very quickly too.  The Health Visitor weighed him last week and he was 9lb 5oz so has put on stacks since he was born (7lb 15oz) which is so reassuring to me as I’m exclusively breastfeeding.

5 Week Post Partum Update - www.mamamim.com

I really struggled with my milk supply with Miss M for the 7 months I breastfed her so I’m happy that things are going better this time so far.  I hope that continues.

He feeds often and I feed him on demand – roughly every 2 hours throughout the day and cluster-feeding from 4pm until bedtime at 7pm.  Sometimes he spends the whole day cluster feeding of course.

He’s smiling now!  He was smiling and giggling in his sleep before but that was wind – now we’re getting genuine smiles and they’re so lovely.  It really does make a difference when you feel like they’re giving something back to the relationship :)

Ok…sleep.  So, things continued along the same as last week until 2 days ago when he started stretching out his last sleep more – oh please may this continue!  For the last 2 nights he’s done 3-4 hours from 7pm, fed and then another 2-3 hours, fed again and then another 2-4 hours!  That’s a far cry from the 30-60 minutes he was doing from 3am before!  Oh pleeeease stay like this for a bit as I’m shattered.

I’m still struggling with insomnia which is so annoying.  Despite Mini M sleeping like a trouper last night, I couldn’t sleep from 2am so I’m a zombie today.

I also have a cold :(

It doesn’t help that he’s such a noisy little thing in his sleep, mainly when he’s in REM sleep.  Even the white noise can’t drown out his grunts and groans!  Perhaps I’ll get used to it eventually.  Sometimes it’s a bit of wind.  I’m burping him constantly to try and reduce the spit up and ‘bicycling’ his legs to pop out the poops.  Nice.

Our Family

This weekend we had a lovely visitor – Aunty Val – or as Miss M calls her, Aunty Bal.  Miss M LOVED it as she was spoilt with cuddles and attention and a new Peppa book – thank you Val!  Also thank you for the chocolates and wine – I will not be sharing them with Mr M if I can get away with it :)

We’re looking forward to our family holiday to Wales in a couple of weeks – we’re going with Nanny and Grandad which will be lovely.

Miss M is very confused and thinks we’re going to see WHALES, not going to WALES.  I’ve tried to explain.  I’ve given up.  She’s going to be bitterly disappointed when there are no whales!

I hope the weather stays nice for us as it’s been so lovely for the last few days.

Not sure if it’s because I’m breastfeeding though but I’ve been boiling hot recently – like I was in the third trimester.  Is that normal when breastfeeding?

I’ve decided that after my 6 week check (which will be delayed until after our holibob) will be the start of my diet.  If anyone has any suggestions of diets/weight loss plans that you recommend, let me know.  My ‘possibles’ list so far includes Weight Watchers, Slimming World, 5-2 and Juice Plus.  I can’t decide which to try.  To be fair I’m not really trying to decide.  I’m too busy eating ALL of the chocolate.

I’ll weigh myself when I’m back from my holiday and see what damage pregnancy did.  I know from the way my clothes don’t fit that I didn’t escape lightly.  Pardon the pun.

I’m not too concerned, I had a ball eating all the chocolate – I just know I’ll have to shave it off now somehow but more than that, I’m determined to be a healthy and strong mama and role model for my little ones :)

I’d love to hear your suggestions with diets and if you’re currently on a weight loss mission then please let me know so we can support each other.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely, sunny weekend too!

Oh that’s brilliant! And I read blogs during night feeds too – like right now! :)

suggestion for losing weight -Thinking Slimmer. No diet needed , no products to buy every week, no starving yourself and no food is forbidden – best weight loss method ever x

    • 8th June 2015 / 12:21 am

Ooh Debbie I really need to look into that! :)

  3. 8th June 2015 / 8:48 am

Hooray that Mini is sleeping more. I hope you can move past the insomnia soon. I’m not sure I could function at all during the day with so little sleep let alone keep blogging like you do! Feeling hot is really common when breastfeeding – you are still pumped full of hormones. With the Tot I often got up in the night to feed and left a me shaped sweaty silhouette on the bed – yuk! It’s not happened so far this time but I’ve been feeling really hot and bothered the past few weeks x

On how are you guys doing? I’m shattered! At least in the wide awake times I have plenty of time for blogging. And candy crush. And Dairy Milk! :)

  4. 8th June 2015 / 9:00 am

For me I concentrated on eating healthily (ok healthier at least) and breast feeding did the rest. Hope the sleeps get longer and longer :-)

    • 8th June 2015 / 1:29 pm

Thank you! I really hope breastfeeding encourages the pounds off :) :)

  5. 8th June 2015 / 9:06 am

I hope you get some more sleep soon. I’m not surprised you’re shattered: breast feeding burns up a lot of energy (and is the best way to lose post-pregnancy weight, so keep at it if you can!). I think I remember being a bit warmer the whole time I was breast feeding too… maybe it’s the hormones?

I’m so glad your baby is starting to sleep for longer stretches. Fingers crossed the insomnia vanishes and you get a good 4 hours soon (hopefully to coincide with a lovely holiday to Wales). :-)

    • 8th June 2015 / 1:30 pm

Thank you so much! I would be ecstatic with 4 hours – it sounds like bliss :) :)

  6. 8th June 2015 / 10:05 am

Isn’t he just adorable. Hopefully you start getting some sleep soon. There really os nothing worse especially whilst trying to recover. I wouldn’t rush with the weight loss either, enjoy your time with baba and worry about the weight later. Lots of water and get out walking in parks would be the best. Try cute back on any snacks too.

    • 8th June 2015 / 1:31 pm

Oh thank you! I definitely need to get the snacking in check – it’s my biggest problem! :)

  7. 8th June 2015 / 10:10 am

So pleased to hear that Mini’s sleep is improving – hopefully yours will soon too.

I hope you are feeling better soon xx

    • 8th June 2015 / 1:32 pm

Thanks so much Katie – me tooooo! :)

  8. 8th June 2015 / 12:04 pm

Woo, sounds like he’s on a great path to sleep! If only your insomnia would let you sleep too. My little girl is now 9 weeks old and I still haven’t ‘really’ started a diet. I’m going along the lines of eating less rubbish and exercising more – the healthiest diet you can do really. I’m seeing it as more of a lifestyle choice than anything else as otherwise fad diets just make you yo-yo. #mummymonday

    • 8th June 2015 / 1:33 pm

That’s so true Kelly! I’m trying to walk more too now I’m almost recovered. Oh I hope the insomnia goes soon! :) hope your little one is well :)

Gosh this has just reminded me vividly of what it was like having a newborn! The sleep issues, the cluster feedings, the sweating! I think I’m fine with putting off having another one for a while longer haha! But it sounds like things are getting a bit easier for you which is great :)

    • 9th June 2015 / 7:26 pm

Ha ha I don’t blame you! The sleep has since gotten bad again argh – hopefully not for long :)

  10. 8th June 2015 / 1:57 pm

Glad to hear everything is going so well lovely and I am totally with you on the smiles, they make all the difference in the world don’t they? Sounds like he is doing so well and I hope his sleep continues to improve for you! Thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays

Thanks so much lady! The sleep has since taken a backwards step – argh! :)

  11. 8th June 2015 / 9:59 pm

Aww..cutie. Makes me so broody, even though I don’t miss the sleepless nights.
Don’t worry about the weight, just enjoy the little one! :) xx #mummymonday

      Oh thanks so much! :)

Aww what a lovely update. I remember those first smiles so well, they are so special. Well done on the breastfeeding. When I was doing it, it made me stay super slim and I ate loads of cake. Then I stopped feeding and all the cake piled onto my hips! Oh well, I needed it back then to get me through the day (and the feeds). Glad to hear everything is settling down and that Mini M is sleeping for longer. Hopefully you ill too. Love that Miss M thinks she’s going to see whales! Made me chuckle! Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

The smiles are so so special, and the giggles! Thanks lovely :) :)

Good to hear all is going well! Love that Miss M pronounces “V” and “B” as my Freyja does too – she is into superheroes at the moment and it took me some time to work out what the “Abengers” were!
Thanks for linking up with #SundayStars
