6 Month Post Partum Update

6 Month Post Partum Update

Mini M is 6 months old this week – what a big boy!  Here’s our 6 month post partum update:

Mini M

Mini seems to have grown up quite a lot in the past couple of weeks alone.  He’s starting to look like a little boy and less baby-like each day.  His hand to eye co-ordination is getting even better and he especially loves to pull play with my hair.

He’s a very happy and content baby and (thankfully) only cries when he wants something – milk, to sleep or a nappy change generally.  He has quite a serious little ‘resting face’ still but when he breaks into a smile he melts my heart – such a lovely, gummy smile.

On the subject of gums, he has no teeth and no sign of any yet!  His big sister didn’t get any teeth until later on as well and I’m making the most of not having teething issues so far – and I’ve probably jinxed that now!

During the day we have a lot of fun practicing sitting up and tummy time.  He isn’t a big fan of being on his tummy still and won’t do it for long – Miss M was the same.  I think for that reason he’ll be a late crawler.  He kicks his legs a LOT though like a little frog.

He’s doing a lot of babbling – no “Hello Mummy”s yet :)  We talk to him constantly throughout the day and never do “baby talk” – I’m just not a fan of it.  Miss M is a right little chatterbox and I do wonder if Mini will be the same or if he won’t get a word in!

We’re going to start Baby Led Weaning this week and will probably give him some carrot or banana first – so exciting!  Soooo messy :)

Sleep is pretty good – and I know from years of experience that I’m definitely jinxing myself there.  Mini doesn’t sleep through the night by my definition as I class that as 7pm to 7am but he only wakes up once or twice, has a very quick feed and goes back to sleep.  I’m still breastfeeding for his first and last feed of the day and through the night if he wakes but that is really just for ease at the moment as I need to get a decent night’s sleep now I’ve started my new job.  We have been putting him down drowsy but awake and after a few minutes of wimpering, he goes to sleep with very little fuss which is brilliant.

Is he was in his own room, I think he’d be able to resettle himself in the same way or not even wake up at all at night now but the minute he stirs, Mr M rouses and makes a big old noise and that wakes Mini up more – it drives me crazy!  We’re renting a 2 bedroom apartment at the minute though so have to keep Mini in with us until we move.  I’d love to have him in his own room by now but that said, it is lovely to see his smiley little face every morning in the co-sleeper next to me :)

We’ve assembled the cot now so will be getting him to sleep in that very soon – I’m not sure how that’s going to go down so watch this space!

This will me my last post partum update as, well, I have nothing to report!  Well apart from a little bit of drama last week.

I’ve been ‘back to normal’ for a while and despite needing to lose the ‘baby weight’, all is good with me.  I say ‘baby weight’ as it was there before ha ha oops.

Our family

We’re very much settled into being a family of 4 now.  There are definitely challenging days – especially when either me or Mr M are tired and the kids are being demanding.

We haven’t experienced any major jealousy issues between Miss and Mini although they are both probably too young and I expect we have that to come.  Um, yay!

I’ll be continuing with monthly updates on Mini M’s development so watch this space for news on teeth, crawls and more sleep!

Good luck with BLW, it’s a blast…and Max is enjoying everything that he can get his hands on!

    • 8th November 2015 / 10:24 am

Yay thanks! Ah I bet Max loves it – so much fun! x

Lovely update to read! Six months is such a fab age isn’t it? They start developing a bit of a personality and start looking like little humans rather than tiny newborns! Best of luck with weaning!

    • 8th November 2015 / 10:24 am

That’s so right – his little personality is really starting to show! x

Thank you for sharing your monthly update with us. It sounds like you have a wonderful little family unit and have settled into your new family routine effortlessly by this point. BLW is so much fun, I’m sure mini will love it. As for those pesky teeth I hope he has no issues with them! #KCACOLS

    • 8th November 2015 / 10:42 am

Oh thank you! I’m dreading the teeth so happy for him to be gummy for a bit longer :)

  4. 8th November 2015 / 11:23 am

Aw, sounds like he’s coming on great! And, yes, enjoy the gummy stage for as long it lasts! The first food we tried with Marianna was banana and I was so stressed when she wouldn’t go for it at all (you can tell she was the first!). Turns out she just really doesn’t like banana… :) #KCACOLS

    • 8th November 2015 / 7:34 pm

Ahh we were the same with our first too! I don’t blame her, I don’t like banana either :)

Aww what a lovely update – I can’t believe he is 6 months and you are back to work too! (BOO!) Best of luck with the baby led weaning I did a bit of both with M and it was just SO messy! ;-)

I sometimes do wish I’d started blogging sooner so I could have written about the early stages as they just go so quickly! We were very lucky and didn’t experience any jealousy either – even when they got bigger. Now they just like to fight over toys instead!

Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday! x

Awww Mim he is doing great!! So many thinsg happen At 6 month! It is an exciting phase. I’m still breastfeeding so I know for sure that breastfeeding babies take longer to sleep through the night. Sienna needed her little feed in the middle of the night at this stage too but then she stopped and just had one in the night and one in the morning. So you are not far to reach that stage. BLW is another interesting phase if I don’t say a very messy and difficult one LOL It is so hard for me to deal with it as I hate the mess but I have been good and I let Sienna to do her thing. Now she is using her spoon to feed herself which is so cute to watch. It is funny because I think she actually likes the spoon. I thought she would just use her hands more. Bella was the opposite. She hated the spoon and just wanted to use her hands. I was doing my updates monthly but since Sienna turned 1 I stopped. My next one will be at 18 months and then at 24 months so I have more to talk! ;-) Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. You have been so supportive with my linky!! I really appreciate it lovely! I love having you here, :-) xxx

Ha ha yes BLW is so messy! We already have a messy carpet oops!! x

      Thank you so much! x

We didn’t have any joy with our tot self settling when he was in the same room either. Too tough for both of us to stay still when he started to cry. Easier to pretend it isn’t happening. Hope you haven’t jinxed yourself. I’m not going to say how my lad is sleeping for the same reason!
Glad everything is going pretty well.

He woke up 3 times last night – THREE TIMES! Not lying. And now I’ve said that out loud, let him sleep through ha ha! Mim x

What a lovely update…and just be thankful for no teeth, they will soon enough come. Caspian has 6 now, first two came 19 weeks…and I’m still breastfeeding, too (ouch!). I read somewhere that babies at thing young age are not really meant to sleep through and that them waking from time to time is nature’s way of protecting against SIDS, so I think it’s a good thing :) But well done you for handling a new job and two young kids! Great read #KCACOLS

Yes you’re right – I’m glad to have no teething going on right now! x

Fab news that Mini is doing well. Tin Box Baby hasn’t had any teeth come through yet but I think they are rumbling around. She has little pink cheeks a lot at the moment. She’s wolfing down her food. We’re doing a bit of mushy stuff and a bit of finger food but I think we’re going to move more towards baby-led soon as she loves filling her own face :) #KCACOLS

    • 16th November 2015 / 12:43 pm

Aww I remember the pink cheeks from first time around!! x

6 months – a stage it’s all change all change! Mainly in the food department….it all goes by in a flash, lovely how you’re documenting all your milestones x #fartglitter

Cute update! Our Master J is a few months behind your Mini M – 3 months now – and he’s our second too, so we’re in the same adjustment phase as you. Getting used to being a family of 4 is definitely interesting.
I can’t imagine going back to work already. Much admiration for you!

    • 16th November 2015 / 12:44 pm

Aww yours is not far behind mine at all! x

  13. 11th November 2015 / 7:53 am

What a lovely update for mini, it’s lovely to have a catch up and see how much they are growing. I always thought my daughter would sleep better in her own room when she was small as I was convinced we were disturbing her, turns out that he just liked someone to cuddle with and still does now at 9! #KCACOLS

      Aww that’s so lovely!! x

Oh I love when they do the frog-leg thing when they’re having tummy time. Our one-year old still does it when his dad comes home in the evening, even though he’s well able to crawl now. I think it means ‘I’m excited to see you! Now, pick me up!’ #coolmumclub

    • 13th November 2015 / 11:45 am

Oh it’s so cute isn’t it – like dogs wagging their tails! x

  15. 13th November 2015 / 12:48 am

This is so lovely. I am expecting my second child in February so it’s really nice to know that you are all happy as a family of 4 :)

    • 13th November 2015 / 11:41 am

It’s just brilliant having two! It’s a big juggle but so lovely to see them start to play together :) x
