6 Week Post Partum Update
It’s my 6 week post partum update and Mini M is therefore, 6 week’s old! Ooh, a month and a half.
This week we’re on holiday in Wales – hurray! It feels like such a long time we’ve been away and it’s our first holiday with both the kids. We have the added bonus of the grandparents too yay!
We arrived yesterday and we’re staying in a house on the sea front for a week. It’s so lovely and there is so much space. Miss M is loving exploring ‘our holiday home’.
So here’s our 6 week post partum update:
The Health Visitor came this week for his 6 week check and he’s doing really well. Mini has put on lots of weight and is now over 10lbs. He’s really starting to chub up which is lovely. She was amazed at how well he holds his head but he has from birth and his sister was the same.
Oh course he wee’d all over the scales when she weighed and measured him, oops.
He passed all of her checks so now we’re just waiting to see our family doctor for the rest when we get back.
Now – I would HATE to jinx myself and will likely regret saying this but sleep has improved. Just for the last 2 nights so far so I’m not getting complacent yet but Mini slept for 6 hours from 7pm!! He then fed and slept another 2.5 hours, then fed and did his ‘waking every 40 minutes’ trick. But 6 hours!! What a good boy – oh purlease may that continue. And then increase to 12 hours like his sister :) I get about 4 hours in the 6 hour block that he does myself and it makes the world of difference to me. I think I could probably survive on that every night although it does mean that I have to go to bed at the same time as him every night and I would like some ‘me time’ in the evenings at some point although that will come in time.
While we’re on the subject of me…! Well I’m doing well – I’m doing much better with a bit more sleep. Sleep deprivation really is awful and you just can’t get used to it. I’m going to make the most of the grandparent’s help this week while we’re away to catch up on some things and some rest when I can.
I was so pleased that Mini M is putting on so much weight as it’s the reassurance I needed to know that breastfeeding was going as well as I thought it was. He’s still breastfed on demand which is sometimes hourly in the day time but if that’s what he needs then I’m going along with it. Especially if it keeps him asleep longer at night!
He is still stuck to me most of the time in the carrier or being fed but he’s also spending some time in his new Babymoov Swoon Motion Swing which allows me to eat my lunch or do some chores.
As I mentioned before, we’re on our hols! It’s perfect timing as I’m feeling almost normal and Mini M is at a good age now where he isn’t as needy.
The journey here was pretty good as both kids slept most of it – hurray!
I’m really looking forward to our first little holiday together and hoping the sea air does us all good :)
