Creating the Perfect Outdoor Living Space

Creating the Perfect Outdoor Living Space

Creating the Perfect Outdoor Living Space is in collaboration with Thomson Outdoor Pine.

The house we have moved to has a beautiful outdoor living space and we’re lucky enough to have a big garden for the kids to run around in.

Whilst we’ve been busy unpacking and coming up with ideas for the inside of the house, we haven’t done anything outside yet.

Part of the reason we moved back to Australia is because we love spending time outdoors and our decking area is so lovely with both an open and undercover area.

I want to try and create an outdoor living space that both kids and adults will want to spend time in. We’re social and love to have friends round for BBQ’s and playdates with the kids and as I work from home, I would like to spend time working outside sometimes too.

So we need an outdoor living space that is practical for all of those things.

I’ve been scouring Pinterest for ideas and I’m getting really excited now about the potential the space has. Here are a couple of the ideas I’ve loved.

A timber deck is great for families and Miss M regularly rides her scooter up and down ours. I can’t wait to start decorating and share with you how it turns out!

I came across Thomsons Outdoor Pine recently, who offers bespoke timber deck designs to fit your liking.  They also have a great variety of pergolas, timber screens, gates, carports and treated pine decking.

I love this beautiful space with the clean look of the white and pale timber together. I have seen an outdoor furniture set, (further down the post) that I really like that would help recreate this space on our deck.

I’ve just discovered House of Turquoise – a beautiful home and interiors blog that’s all things turquoise!  It’s one of my favourite colours, along with teal, aqua and mint, so this blog is a real treat for me. I love the colour scheme of this beautiful deck and how the space is defined into separate dining and seated areas.

I’d love to be able to have a dining space with a large table big enough for family and friends, and then perhaps an area with sofas and soft furnishings to relax with a glass of wine in the evening.

I love this outdoor furniture set from Freedom Furniture.  It’s currently on sale, and I’m so tempted to get it!

Oh I would love a space like that. I love the furniture set that you have chosen, that is exactly the sort of thing I would pick too. I’m a turquoise and mint fan too, such lovely fresh colours xx

Mim we have quite a large outside space too and I love it, every year we add a new little feature or area, and when we get good weather we spend all of our time out there. I love your ideas, a garden sofa is on my list, or lots of comfy bean bags x

Gosh we have decking and it looks nothing like those pics – it just shows what you can do. You’ve got me excited for summer now (but this is UK so maybe I should up sticks to Oz too) x

You have no idea of how jealous I am of the sun beating down on your garden right now! I feel as though I’ve not seen the sun for month and come to think about it, that’s because I haven’t! You must love being in Australia now. I love all your inspo pics, what a shame all that effort would be wasted on English weather!! *gets violins out* xxx

Aww I feel your pain – I HATE the cold!! I do miss a lot about the UK otherwise though :) x

Oh it is so lovely to look at these photos, I bet you can’t wait to get started on your outside space, I absolutely love the turquoise furniture, what a beautiful bright colour! Looks at it’s best in the sun too which is perfect for Australia, we have some yellow outdoor chairs but I must admit they don’t look quite as good in our miserable winter xx #HomeEtc

I am super excited about finding this post. We move into our new home in April (fingers crossed builders will be finished) and like you I have been thinking loads about the interior and not so much the exterior, but I was just saying to hubby that I want a nice outdoor dining area (a must in Australia) and I was thinking of something like the pic you have of the white and pale timber. It’s like the picture was sitting there waiting for me to discover it on your post! Sorry I am blabbing but I am so excited as I love this image and ideas, so thank you. Now I just need to move in!

Isn’t it beautiful! I wish I could click my fingers and recreate it – it’s exactly what I would love :) Yay to your new home and good luck with the move!! x

Wow you’re so lucky to have such a versatile outdoor space, so much opportunity to put your stamp on it, how will you ever decide what to do?? I can’t wait to see how it develops X #HomeEtc

Hello Mim! Thanks so much for linking up with us! My house was hit with the dreaded winter sick bug last week so I’m so behind with my comments. Just catching up now!

I absolutely LOVE the white veranda — ohmygoodness — if that were mine — I’d never be inside!!! Can’t wait to see what you eventually go for!!! SO exciting! :)

PS #HomeEtc is live tomorrow from 6.30am xx

Just looking at these decks made me want to buy a bunch of timber and make one of my own! While I love the original brown coloring of the natural wood in the first few pictures, I absolutely love the grey and turquoise combo in the House of Turquoise’s patio. I usually don’t like bright colors, but the grey wood and couch with the bright blue highlights just looks so cute! Thanks for all the inspiration.
