Living Room Home Decor
We bought our new house in Summer 2014 and moved in September. It’s a standard 3 bedroom semi-detached house and is perfect for our little family of (almost 4) for now.
When we moved back from Australia to the UK at the start of 2014 one of the first thing we noticed was the difference in home decor over here. Especially the love affair with the ‘wallpapered feature wall’! Actually, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a wallpapered wall in Australia full stop but I’m sure they must use it too.
Some feature walls are beautiful additions to a room, really setting the tone and highlighting the room’s key features. Unfortunately in the house we ended up buying, the feature wall was nothing short of garish, dark and dull!
In fact, the whole house pretty much was wallpapered some time ago so peeling away from the walls, faded and grubby so we knew it had to go.
As we both work, we hired a local decorator who set about stripping the paper away, sanding the walls and painting them a lovely clean and crisp white – very Australian! Not very English. Not surprisingly so as well as without the constant blue skies and sunshine, white walls really can be very clinical and bland. So our aim as we decorate the house is to try and maintain a simple and clean look but to add warmth with texture and colour.
Another reason we chose white walls was to try and maintain a good resale or rental value as we expect to move as the family grows.
The first room we have completed is the Living Room so I thought I’d add some pics today and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and if we can make any more improvements.
